Attending a Painting Workshop in Mexico
A few weeks ago, I traveled to Zacatecas, Mexico, with my mom and sister to spend three days learning from an artist I’ve admired for a long time, @omar_lezza
The workshop focused on portrait drawing and oil painting. We spent time studying the structure of the human head, training our eyes to see and understand the face differently, and exploring color theory, mixing, and the application of skin tones.
I love oil painting, and one of my biggest goals as an artist is to become the best I can be at it and create beautiful portraits.
But what I love most about this journey is realizing that there is always more to learn.
This year, I started a new chapter as a student again, and it’s been both humbling and exciting. I think I’ve finally embraced the idea of being a forever student—always curious, always learning, always trying to see things from a new perspective.
And everything I learn finds its way back into my tattooing.
Understanding anatomy and the structure of the human face. Learning new ways to observe. Seeing light and color differently. Building better skin tone palettes. All of it will influence the way I approach portraiture and realism in my tattoos.
The goal isn’t just to make tattoos.
It’s to keep becoming a better artist.
One class.
One painting.
One tattoo.
One lesson at a time.
