NAME:
  Francisco de Goya y Lucientes

Biography:

Francisco de Goya was born March 30, 1746 in Fuendetodos, near Zaragoza. It received its education in the Escuelas Pias de Zaragoza and initiated with 14 years its formation artistic, entering like apprentice the factory of José Luzán, local painter, where Goya passed four years. In 1763 went away to Madrid, where knew Francisco Bayeu the Aragonese artist, who influenced remarkably in his formation.

In 1789 Carlos IV it named chamber painter, becoming the following year the official painter of Palace. In the winter of 1792 it contracted one serious disease that left totally deaf and marked a point him of flexion in its artistic expression. Between 1797 and 1799 it drew and it recorded the etching. With that technique it made copies of paintings of Velazquez. First of their great series of engravings, "Los Caprichos" (the whims), would be followed by series as "Los Desastres de la Guerra" (the Disasters of the War, 1810) and "Los Disparates" (silly things, 1820-1823).

In its paintings it reflects the horror and dramatic quality of the brutales massacres of groups of disarmed Spaniards who fought in the streets of Madrid against the French soldiers.

Direct simplicity and honesty also are appraised in the pictures that painted in the peak of their race, like the family of Carlos IV (1800, Museum of El Prado), where one is the real family without the habitual idealización. The famous "black paintings" (1820, Museum of El Prado), they are the most outstanding works of the last years.

In 1824 went away to exile in France. In Bordeaux worked the technique of the lithography, with which it made a series of bullfighting scenes. He died in April 16, 1828 in that country .
